DR.OCTOGANAPUS!
I think what The Simpsons need to do are a few things: maybe pick better days to air episodes. I mean, THE 450th EPISODE at the same time as the Pro Bowl and the Grammys?! Huge mistake. That episode deserved at least 8 million, but American Dad! got ahead of them! I also feel that the writers are coming up with episodes they already did. Some are goldies like "No Loan Again, Naturally" (favorite of season 20) and "Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?" (favorite of season 21). Guest stars are also a contributing factor. I think they've got it, but they need to keep getting ahead of the other shows. If they keep this up, they'll be able to be up a few more years at least or how Bart says it: "The world will end in 2012, but this show won't."
Oh, and my favorite episode of all time is Homer's Enemy and Behind the Laughter. My favorite recent episode is Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?.

I think you mean the controversial episode "The Principal and the Pauper". Where Principal Skinner is revealed to be fake and his story in life is all false. Although many hate it, it's a pretty decent one.
